You can work off campus as an international student if you meet all the following requirements:

      • You’re a full-time student at a designated learning institution.
      • You’re enrolled in a post-secondary program and your program is at least 6 months long that leads to a degree, diploma or certificate.

You can begin working only after you have started your program. Additionally, you must apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) before you start working.

Please refer to the “Family Sponsorship” section of the program guide for detailed information. Note that the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program for 2024 is not accepting new applications. If you did not submit an expression of interest in 2020, you are not eligible to apply at this time.

If you wish for your parents to stay in Canada for more than 6 months, they may be eligible to apply for a Super Visa.

Since your spouse is already in Canada on a visitor visa, Inland Spousal Sponsorship is more appropriate. It provides the benefit of living together in Canada during processing, and your spouse can also apply for an open work permit if eligible.

However, it’s important to note that if your Inland Spousal Sponsorship application is refused, you cannot appeal the decision; you can only reapply. In contrast, an Outland Spousal Sponsorship application can be appealed if it is refused.

When applying for the Provincial Nomination Program, it typically requires you to provide a settlement plan to demonstrate your long-term intention to work and live in that province. Fulfilling your settlement plan is an important commitment. However, as your personal and family circumstances change, you, as a Canadian Permanent Resident, have the right to work, study, and live in any province.

You can use the “Client Application Status” to followup the status of your PR application (non express entry). Please find the link below:

Due to the lack of detailed personal background information, I cannot provide specific advice on which areas you should improve. However, based on the factors that influence CRS scores, areas such as level of education, official language proficiency, Canadian and foreign work experience, as well as additional points from provincial nominations, LMIA, family factor can all impact your score.

If you have a spouse, your spouse’s background should also be factored into your CRS score.

If your score is still not high enough to receive an invitation from Express Entry, you can ask your employer if they are willing to support you with an LMIA employer-specific work permit. This requires your employer to first apply for an LMIA approval from ESDC Canada.

Additionally, you should look into the provincial nominee program in your province. If you meet the requirements and are approved for the provincial nomination, you can also apply for a work permit (IRPA 204(C), LMIA exemption code T13).
